Moscow to St. Petersburg

We left Moscow this afternoon. It was a beautiful sunny morning - after six days of grey, I have come to savor any hint of sunlight.

We were so nervous about the train station! After the horribly confounding Metro, we expected to be completely lost and turned around, but it was easy. The Moscow train station is very pretty, but if you look up at the top, there is a hammer and sickle!

Not a very good picture, but it was taken from a moving car.

The train ride was very uneventful. Not as luxurious as we had hoped - no red velvet or gilding. Just simple, comfortable seats. They even threw in slippers! We took lots of pictures of the passing countryside.

It was snowing when we arrived in St Petersburg. Big, fluffy flakes. Our hotel is right near the Hermitage, so we plan on visiting it quite bit this week. We even got some tips from Bloomberg's St Petersburg cultural guy! I really want to find their 'Hidden Treasures' room with all the unreturned art works from WWII.
